Good Choices Today

Ben and I made it a lazy morning and stayed in bed until 11! (We were up super late celebrating the Redskins win last night!) I didn't have breakfast this morning, which is quite unusual for me. We decided to go to Panera Bread for lunch because I have incredibly generous students and we had a few gift cards to use. I really wanted creamy tomato soup, but once I looked at the calories, I quickly changed my mind! I tried to make better choices today. Like I said, I'm taking baby steps. Instead of getting the soup AND a sandwich that I really wanted, I tried to pick a lower calorie soup (french onion without croutons) and then get the half sandwich I wanted. I normally would've also picked chips (because I love them), but I chose the apple today. I also decided to swap a fountain soda for green tea. Although it was still more calories than I normally eat for lunch, I felt like the food I was putting in was a little better for me than what I would normally choose. The next thi...

Over-Posting Today!

I'm sitting here watching the Packers/Vikings game and can't help thinking about how much food I have consumed while watching football! (or TV in general) My solution to this is that starting on New Year's Day, while I have the TV on, I will do an exercise during the commercial breaks. It doesn't matter if it's push-ups, sit-ups, squats, whatever...I'm going to get off of my butt and do something! I remember doing this when I lived with my parents. I'd chat with Mom and do sit-ups on the living room floor. It's a no-brainer! I'm cutting myself some slack for the next two days. I actually did okay eating-wise today, I'm just having some Moscato in preparation for the Redskins/Cowboys game. It IS after all one of the biggest games of the season for us and determines whether we'll make it to the playoffs. If these guys can bust their butts as a career, I can certainly get off of mine and do some working out/celebrating while I watch. Anyway......

First Workout Complete!

It might've only been an 18 minute toning workout, but I did it! I feel out of shape, but also proud of myself for getting it in; especially after all of the holiday indulging. This web site is fantastic for easy workouts: www.fitsugar.com. Looking forward to doing some more this week!

Holding Myself Accountable

I have been trying to figure out the best way to motivate myself to get back on track with my physical and mental health. Since the New Year is approaching and so is my wedding, I thought, why not start a blog? I need to hold myself more accountable for what I'm putting into my body and how I am treating it. In 2008, my Mom had a heart attack at the age of 50. Thank God she is still with us today, but it was a wake up call for the rest of us. She is generally a healthy lady who exercises and doesn't eat terribly, but heart disease runs in our family. Also, my Dad has struggled with his weight as well. He had gastric bypass surgery and was able to lose 175lbs. I just don't want to get to the point where I need to do that. I have been steadily gaining weight since high school...aside from the period that I coached cross country for the high school I worked in during 2008. I was always a healthy teenager involved in track, cross country and soccer. I loved exercising and would...
