Out of Whack
My motivation and I need to have a chat. I'm not sure where she disappeared to, but I sure hope she comes back soon. I was all set to go to the gym this afternoon and when I get there, I realize I have forgotten my socks, iPod and a hair tie. I sweat, A LOT and going to the gym without something to pull my hair back is just a pain in the ass! I don't know if I'm subconsciously trying to sabotage myself or what! On Monday I forgot to pack my shoes! I forced myself to get on the stationary bike hoping that I wouldn't be too uncomfortable, but it was so squeaky I couldn't handle it. Without my iPod to drown out the other sounds of the gym it was very hard to focus on my workout. There were no other bikes available so I switched to an elliptical. The first one I got on was making strange noises as well and I felt a bit lopsided on it. I switched to yet another and after about 12 minutes, I couldn't stand it any more! Normally when I get on the machine and get into a flow, I'm good and I can focus. This was NOT the case today. I just feel like I'm in such a funk. I'm trying so hard to stay on top of things, be motivated and get pumped to be healthy, but it just isn't happening right now. The weather is certainly not helping either...
Another problem I'm having is eating regularly. When I work my two jobs on Tuesdays, I am so ravenous by the time I get home that even after eating dinner, I'm still famished. (Yes, I gave myself time, drank 16oz of water and STILL felt hungry.) As a teacher, I find it practically impossible to snack during the day. My planning period falls around the same time as lunch and I am occupied throughout the day. If I don't have bus duty at the end of the day, then I have student helpers in my room and because we have so many crazy food allergies to worry about, I try not to eat while they're there. I do usually have a granola bar or protein bar before the gym, but I just get so hungry in the evenings. I guess it's just something I need to work on. Any advice from my teacher friends would be greatly appreciated.

Well.... I cut up apples, cheese and carrots and snack on them throughout the day.... figure if I stuff myself full of apples and carrots than I won't eat too much junk. Check w/Jenna, but I don't think those are items that kids are allergic to. I think all the kids get snack time, so I don't think that they would care that you're snacking if you tell them that it's your snack time! (At least the fourth graders shouldn't - they get snack right after seeing you.) Just tell them that you're trying to make healthier food choices and that you're snacking now so that you don't eat a tub of ice cream later. Oh wait, that's my weakness, not yours! ;P
ReplyDeleteAs far as the gym.... I dunno what to say. I'm horrible about working out regularly. Any ideas that work for you, send them my way!!
I have similiar problems working snacks and meals in at my job. And honestly this is where my killer smoothie philosophy comes in again. I often make enough for 2-3 servings and keep one with me at work and at least it offers an option when you do not have time to stop and eat you usually can at least drink something with your water. Depending on if you want it to be a snack or a meal replacement you can make it different ways. I almost always use at least greek yogurt and/or protein powder though to help fill me up and then the experimentation of how you want to make them/what you put in them can blossom from there. I honestly feel that if I eat more lean proteins and fiber in the first half of the day it is very helpful for me not feeling exasperatedly hungry and prone to all kinds of cravings and over eating later in the day.
